Elders aging in place, Cohousing, Vulnerable members

Even before Covid-19 made things worse, many people in both urban and rural contexts face chronic housing issues, including Elders/Seniors, Indigenous peoples, young families, workers, youth aging out of care, and other vulnerable community members. Our research and expertise is focused on co-developing resilient neighbourhoods through high-performance, affordable, culturally appropriate, accessible, community-oriented housing.

The following video highlights our origins and Indigenous Homes Innovation Initiative project.

Is Cohousing is right for you?

This 3-part workshop (one Tues/week starting April 5, 2022) turns the focus from forming a cohousing group on to the next steps for community building and why it matters. This workshop will allow participants to examine what they want to get out of cohousing and how it can change their lives.

BCHousing Approves 20-Unit Project in ʔaq̓am

ʔaq̓am has recently been approved for funding by BC Housing, Indigenous Homes Innovation Initiative, and Columbia Basin Trust to build housing on-reserve for community members. There will be a total of 20 high performance accessible in-community dwellings with access to care, social and physical amenities completed in 2024. The project includes 10 one-bedroom units for Elders as well as 8 two-bedroom units, and 2 three-bedroom units for families. This project will expedite the transition of Elders into suitable living arrangements. Residents in the family units will be able to provide supports for Elders in this multi-generational focused design. It includes a large Common House amenity space for residents and the greater community to gather and access services.
